Lin Enger

Watermark Books & Cafe is pleased to host Lin Enger, for his new novel The High Divide (Publication date: September 23, 2014).

Set in Minnesota in 1886, ten years after the Indian Wars of the northern plains, The High Divide is set against the backdrop of the American West during a pivotal time in its history. As the novel opens, Ulysses Pope has disappeared from his home without a word, leaving behind Gretta, his Danish-American wife, and their two young sons. Against their mother's wishes, the boys set off to find their father, following a trail of clues that leads them into the rugged badlands of Montana. The closer they come to Ulysses' trail, the greater the perils, until each is faced with a choice about who they will defend and who they will become. Gretta has no choice but to seek out her sons and husband and along the way discovers that she never really knew the man she married. Both intimate and epic, The High Divide is historical fiction at its best.

Lin Enger is an Iowa Workshop graduate, the author of the novel Undiscovered Country, and the recipient of a James Michener Award and a Minnesota State Arts Board fellowship. He teaches at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
